Berkut 2E
AGAT · Belarus · also known as Berkut-2E · Updated
Berkut 2E is a catapult-launched tactical UAV built by Belarus's AGAT for the Belarusian Armed Forces and State Border Committee. It is the export-oriented ("E" for "Eksportny") version of the in-service Berkut-2 system and needs no prepared runway, launching by catapult from any suitable open area.
Overview
AGAT's export catalogue, cited by Army Recognition, describes the Berkut-2E system as comprising two UAVs, a ground control station, a transceiver, a catapult launcher and two transport containers, along with interchangeable camera, thermal-imager and TV-camera payloads, operated by a two-person crew. In March 2015, Belarus's State Military Industrial Committee (Goskomvoenprom) said AGAT — formally JSC "AGAT – Control Systems" — had upgraded the in-service Berkut-2 fleet based on operational experience: reinforcing the catapult launcher structure, replacing servo actuators with magnetic ones, improving the ground control station software, and substituting previously foreign-sourced automatic-control and payload components with Belarusian-made equivalents.
Design and capabilities
AGAT's catalogue figures, as reported by Army Recognition, give Berkut-2E a maximum weight of up to 10 kg, a cruise speed of 80 to 100 km/h, an endurance of up to 120 minutes, a flight range of 35 km and a service ceiling of 3,000 m. AGAT rates the system's service life at no less than five years.
Operational history
Berkut-2E is operated by the Belarusian Armed Forces and the Belarusian State Border Committee, which use the baseline Berkut-2 for reconnaissance; AGAT's 2015 upgrade programme was undertaken specifically to improve the reliability and effectiveness of UAVs already delivered to Belarusian troops.
