Teal Drones is a US unmanned-aircraft maker founded in 2014 in Utah by George Matus. Red Cat Holdings acquired the company in 2021, and it now anchors Red Cat's enterprise and defence drone line, marketed together with sibling brand FlightWave under the "Red Cat Aerial" name.
Teal's product line includes the Teal 2, a small military-grade reconnaissance aircraft, and the Black Widow, a backpack-portable short-range reconnaissance quadcopter developed for the US Army's Short Range Reconnaissance programme and shown publicly for the first time at AUSA 2024. Both aircraft are built around interchangeable electro-optical/infrared gimbal payloads and are marketed for use in GPS-denied environments, with Black Widow additionally offering a frequency-hopping radio link for contested electromagnetic conditions.
The company's manufacturing is based in Utah, with Red Cat Aerial listing additional production capacity in California. Within Red Cat's wider portfolio, Teal Drones' aircraft sit alongside FlightWave's Edge 130 tri-copter as the company's main small-UAS offerings for military and enterprise customers.
